Phillip Leon Burton

Phillip Leon Burton, 87, of Marion, passed away at 9:25 am on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Wyndmoor of Marion. He was born in Fairmount, Indiana, on Monday, July 12, 1937, to Elmer and Delene (Florea) Burton. On August 3, 1973, he married Marjorie Ailes and she preceded him in death on June 25, 2008.

Phillip graduated from Fairmount High School in 1955 and worked for over 30 years with Chrysler. Phil was a member of the UAW and had served as a union representative during his time at Chrysler. He volunteered at Marion General Hospital after he retired and also served on the Fowlerton Town Board for many years. Phil was an avid sports fan and was a stand-out football and basketball player at Fairmount High School. He loved following IU basketball and had coached little league and Babe Ruth league baseball for several years in Greentown. He was also a referee and umpire for many years. Phil will be remembered as a hard working and family oriented man who had a great personality and sense of humor. He was dedicated to the Lord and was ready to be called home.

Survivors include his son, Brad (Dana) Burton of Cape Canaveral, FL; daughter, Shari (Wayde) Winters of Marion; step-children, Donna (J.R.) Purtee, Marilyn (John) Pagan, Anna (Steve) Evans, Merlin (Sandy) Fights, Cathy (Greg) Hensler and Lisa Semans; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Steven (Sue) Burton and Wilbur "Dub" (Nancy) Burton; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Delene Burton; wife, Marjorie Burton; son, Brent Burton; and step-son, Donnie Fights.

Urn burial and graveside service will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Park Cemetery in Fairmount.
