August’s First Friday to welcome the Downtown Throwdown

WABASH, IN- Crowds will line Miami Street sidewalks in Downtown Wabash to witness a thrilling display of youth-aged, friendship-format, folk-style wrestling, hosted by the Apache Wrestling Club. The Downtown Throwdown wrestling tournament, formerly known as Thrash in the Bash, is a fan-favorite community spectacle. August’s First Friday will also feature numerous shopping & dining specials, the return of Food Truck Plaza, Miami Street community vendor booths and more from 5-8pm.

“Our wrestling program hosts the Downtown Throwdown to bring wrestling to our local community," says tournament organizer and Wabash High School head wrestling coach, Matt Zickafoose. “The most enjoyable part is how much fun the kids have wrestling downtown and being on display for everyone to see their skills. The more awareness we can bring to our wrestling program only helps us build on our great wrestling tradition at Wabash.”

The Downtown Throwdown wrestling tournament is open to ages six and up with an entry fee of $10. On-site registration and weigh-ins will run from 4:30-5:30 p.m., with the tournament starting promptly at 6:00 p.m.

Food Truck Plaza, located at Veterans Plaza, will feature live music by Sammy D the UkuLady and several food truck vendors for visitors to browse a diverse array of food offerings. During August’s First Friday, Food Truck Plaza will feature Amazn Azn, The Beverage Buggy, Nick’s Dog Cart, Fairfax Coffee Co., The Franklin Mobile Bar, Carol Sue’s BBQ, Emmett’s Paddy Wagon and Amor Colombian Food.

Numerous downtown businesses will offer a variety of summertime and back to school-inspired First Friday specials for shoppers to take advantage of. From American-made clothing and local artist wares to handcrafted jewelry and up-cycled clothing, there’s something for everyone. Miami Street will also close to traffic during the event, welcoming community vendor booths with various activities, giveaways and information. To ensure safe transportation and easy access to additional event parking, Trolley No.85 will run a free route with various stops throughout Downtown Wabash.
