Gerald James Goins, 68, of Marion, passed away at 6:58 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born on December 11, 1957, in Marion, Indiana, to Roy Mack Goins and Elizabeth Ann (Moon) Laypoole. On January 6, 2018, he married the love of his life, Debra S. Hogan.
Gerald worked as a plumber for Marion Community Schools and was a proud member of the Grant County Pool League. He enjoyed playing pool, poker, fishing, and camping.
Gerald was never the loudest person in the room, but his presence was always felt. He was a quiet observer with a strong exterior and a heart of gold. While he didn’t always express his love through words, he demonstrated it through his actions, his willingness to help others, and his genuine interest in the lives of those around him. Gerald was someone you could always count on. If he said he would be there, he would, even if he grumbled a little along the way. He gave his all to everything he did and leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and enduring love.
He is survived by his wife, Debra S. Goins of Marion; his daughter, Stacy Goins of Noblesville; his son, Brian James Goins of Indianapolis; his brothers, David Goins of Dale, Mike Goins of Marion, Jeff Goins of Marion, and Kevin Laypoole of Marion; his sister, Carol Edwards of Marion; and his best friends, Clyde Dublin of Marion and Noel Learned of Wabash.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Mack Goins, his mother, Elizabeth Ann Laypoole; his children’s mother, Brenda K. Wilder.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, Indiana.
