Nancy Lee Plummer

Nancy Lee Plummer, 75, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 2:45 pm, Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Wellbrooke of Wabash. She was born on September 27, 1950, in Wabash, Indiana, to Harry Lee and Marcella (Rager) Whitehurst.

Nancy graduated from Wabash High School in 1968 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in 1972, followed by a master’s degree from Manchester University. On June 18, 1972, she married the love of her life, William E. “Bill” Plummer, at the First United Methodist Church in Wabash. A devoted educator, Nancy spent 37 years teaching first grade at Metro North Elementary School, where her kindness, patience, and creativity shaped countless young lives. She was a member of Wabash First United Methodist Church and a former member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority. She also cherished her involvement in Time Out for Crafts, a group founded by her mother, where she proudly became the first second-generation member. Nancy had a remarkable artistic talent and created many treasured pieces throughout her life. She loved playing euchre and was an enthusiastic member of a euchre club. Purdue football games were a favorite pastime, and she held a special affection for her cats, Penny and Ariella, as well as the big cats at Turpentine Creek in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Above all, Nancy found her greatest joy traveling the country with her beloved husband, Bill, in their motor home – exploring new places, making memories, and sharing adventures together.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Plummer of Wabash, “adopted daughter”, Emily McCormack of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, lifelong friend, Kyle (Karen) Farmer, and their son Evan, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and several cousins, including her “sister cousin,” Jane (Steven) Hentgen of Wabash. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Monday, July 6, 2026, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash. Entombment will be in Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum, at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
