
William Edward “Butch” Bowman, 75, of Gas City, passed away at 6:25 pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Wednesday, March 28, 1951, to Charles and Mary (Hobbs) Bowman.
Butch worked as a Parts Manager for Auto Tech and Advance Auto Parts. Butch loved racing, especially drag racing, and had built racecars with his son. He loved his Shih Tzu puppies, Buddy and Jasmine. Butch was a family centered man who did what he could to help the people in his life. He was a good supervisor and loved to teach others.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Bowman of Gas City; son, William E. “Butch” Bowman, Jr.; daughters, Misty Bodkins and Lee Ann (Wayne) Gibbs; grandson, Jeremy Bowman, siblings, Jerry Bowman, Janet Gary and Connie “Tootie” Skeens; several nieces and nephews; and many friends in the drag racing community.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mary Bowman; daughter, Tina Lynn Bowman; and siblings, Jim Bowman, Paula Yates, and Herbetta Cox.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Services, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN 46933.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate William’s life will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
