
Marilyn L. Harter, 92, Westfield, passed away at 5:50 pm on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Sunday, September 3, 1933, to Clarence and Miriam (Lee) Williams. On November 23, 1952, she married Thurman C. Harter, and he survives.
Marilyn graduated from Marion High School in 1951. She was an avid sports enthusiast who played for the Marion Girls Softball team during a time when it was often frowned upon for girls to participate in athletics. She especially loved swimming and completed Senior Life Saver classes. She enjoyed playing golf with her husband, reading, sewing, and knitting, creating many treasured items for her family. She also found joy in gardening and canning. As a devoted mother, she spent countless hours chauffeuring her children to their many activities. Her home was a gathering place for family, especially during summer months and holiday celebrations. A faithful member of her church choir, she also cherished the friendships she shared through a Saturday night dinner group with close friends.
Survivors include her husband, Thurman C. Harter of Westfield; daughters, Cindy (Mark) Hiatt of Noblesville, Debbie Bruner of FL; grandchildren, Brant Bruner, Bryce (Becky) Bruner, Brady (Kayley) Bruner, Jessica (Cody) Robison, Greg (Ashley) Jordan; several great grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Marian) Williams of Albuquerque, NM; nieces, Paula Berg and Donna Jennings; and nephew, Karl Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Miriam J. Williams; and nephew, Keith Williams.
The family will receive visitors from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will begin at 1:30 pm with Rev. Dan Van Cise officiating. Burial will take place at IOOF Cemetery in Marion.
