Bobby Lee “Curly” Carr, 92, of Lagro, Indiana, died on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born May 6, 1934, in Wabash, he was the son of Russell and Blanche (Meyer) Carr. He spent all 92 years in Wabash County and never acted like he needed to be anywhere else.
His family moved to Lagro Township in 1941, and from then on Bobby was thrown straight into farm work-livestock, chores, busted equipment, and whatever else decided to fall apart that day. He wasn’t “gifted with animals”; he just knew how to handle them. And if something broke, he’d mutter, “Hell, I can fix it,” and then he did. He was a Boy Scout, went to Lagro School, played basketball and baseball, and somehow ended up Vice‑President of the Class of 1952. After graduation, he served in the Army National Guard from 1952 to 1961, earning sharpshooting badges because he could hold a rifle steady and didn’t miss.
Farming wasn’t a lifestyle to Bobby-it was work, and he did it because that’s what a man does. He kept livestock his whole life and hauled hogs and equipment for Pefley’s, making friends the same way he did everything else: straight‑forward, no bull, take it or leave it. He was part of the Lagro Lions Club and the Indiana Trail Riders Association, mostly because he liked the people, and the camaraderie they shared.
Bobby enjoyed the outdoors, because of his favorite hobbies, shooting and riding horses or mules. His pride and joy was daily caring for his many horses and mules he raised. Over the years his two most beloved mules were, Frosty and Jen. Bobby was best described as a faithful friend, good neighbor, and a legend of his time. He lived life his way: stubborn, steady, and unapologetically himself.
He is survived by his twin daughters, Darla (Charles) Tribbett of Monticello, Indiana and Marla (Steven) Smith of Urbandale, Iowa; five grandchildren, Natalie (Bradley) Thomas, Mason (Elise) Tribbett, Tyler (Grace) Smith, Janae (Matt) Stephenson, and Shera (Gabe) Rau; as well as four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Eileen Gurtner.
