Lisa Jane McCoy, 63, of Wabash, Indiana, passed away on May 23, 2026. Born February 16, 1963, in Peru, Indiana, Lisa was raised in Mexico, Indiana, and spent her life building community, caring for others, and leaving people better than she found them. She was the kind of person who could walk into a room of strangers and leave with new friends before the night was over.
Lisa was known as one of the original faces of Market Street Grill in Wabash, where she built a career around her passion for people, laughter, hard work, and good food. Guests remember her moving from table to table sharing jokes, stories, and one-liners that made everyone feel welcome. Her humor, honesty, and personality became part of what made the restaurant feel like home to so many. She also dedicated years of service to ARC of Wabash County, where she advocated for inclusion, respect, and opportunity for all through the supported living program, Special Olympics involvement, and everyday acts of kindness and support. Lisa believed every person deserved dignity, respect, and to feel valued, no matter who they were or where they came from. Most recently, Lisa served as Dietary Director at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana, where she continued doing what she loved most. Her integrity, work ethic, and ability to lead with accountability and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Outside of work, Lisa showed love through creativity, humor, and thoughtful gestures. She made beaded lanyards and glasses chains, baked memorable birthday cakes, and found joy in celebrating others. She loved animals, especially her cats, Ace and Tux, and her dog Pearl, as well as sunshine, music, margaritas, and an ice-cold Mountain Dew. Her playlist often included Jimmy Buffett, Toby Keith, and Keith Urban, and if music was playing, there was a good chance Lisa was singing along, dancing, or making someone laugh nearby. She was stubborn in the best ways, loyal, resilient, and always willing to put others before herself, even when it was difficult.
Above all else, Lisa was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Taylor Martin of Wabash, Indiana, Paige Martin of Seattle, Washington, and Brodie Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana; and by her granddaughters, Oakley and Ember Martin of Somerset, Indiana, who brought immense joy to her life. One of her proudest creations was the “paint wall” in her bedroom: a space where her granddaughters could freely paint pictures for her to treasure forever. She is also survived by her siblings, extended family, and countless friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, humor, and generosity.
Lisa was preceded in death by her mother, Jean McCoy, who passed away earlier this year. Though the loss feels heavy, her family finds comfort imagining the two of them reunited once again, laughing together, dancing barefoot somewhere warm, with margaritas in hand, good music playing, and not a worry in sight.
A Celebration of Life honoring Lisa will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Ivy Room upstairs at Market Street Grill, 163 S. Miami Street, Wabash, Indiana. Guests may enter through the side doors. Family and friends are invited to gather for music, margaritas, memories, and laughter as they celebrate a woman whose love and impact touched countless lives. Lisa will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in Mexico, Indiana, beside her mother and forever best friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to organizations supporting cancer care or hospice services in honor of the end-of-life care provided to Lisa’s mother.
