We understand this has caused concern and, in some cases, real financial strains, especially for families on fixed incomes, seniors, and farmers. We hear you, and we are committed to transparency and responsible stewardship of your tax dollars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reason for these increases occurred what the statewide 2025 reassessment. Indiana law requires periodic reassessments to ensure properties are valued fairly based on current market value. Strong real estate markets in recent years, driven by low demand, low inventory, and high construction costs have pushed assessed values higher across the state. From the numbers I found, this was about a 12% average statewide, some being lower and some significantly higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What your County Council is doing is working for you. We are carefully reviewing budgets and spending requests from last budget cycle into this one to levy growth in a responsible way. We will continue to work with the appropriate offices to explore options within state law to provide relief where possible. Our focus remains on delivering essential services efficiently while protecting taxpayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some things you can do are to review your assessment, ensure it is correct, check for any deductions or credits, and\/or appeal if you believe the value is too high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have any questions, please come to a Council meeting or any public meeting that fits your concern. Public engagement with local officials is an extremely important step in maintaining transparency and accountability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you for understanding.
