She was born March 20, 1940, in Lackey, Kentucky, to Edward and Hazel (Hicks) Napier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On December 6, 1957, Carmelita married the love of her life, Robert James Chalfant, who preceded her in death on July 20, 2025. She graduated from high school in Lackey and devoted her life to caring for her home and family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carmelita was an exceptional cook-especially known for her cakes-and a talented quilter. She delighted in rummage sales, where she loved discovering antiques and the kind of \u201cjunk\u201d that always seemed to hold a story. More than anything, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, great\u2011grandchildren, and great\u2011great\u2011grandchildren. In her quiet moments, she enjoyed settling in to watch her favorite westerns on television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her warmth, humor, and love for simple joys will be deeply missed by all who knew her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She is survived by two children: Robert &#8220;Greg&#8221; (Rebecca) Chalfant and Valisa &#8220;Lisa&#8221; (Jeff) Hashbarger, both of Wabash; five grandchildren: Robby Hashbarger of Wabash, Ryan Castle of Nebraska, and Riley (Alyssa) Chalfant, Jasmine Chalfant, and Jana Henderson, all Wabash; nine great-grandchildren: Cole Unger, Morgan Brock, James Hashbarger, Kaitlyn Hashbarger, Isaac Meccette, Aaliysha Mackey, Xavier Mackey, Jazzlyn Henderson, and Pierce Henderson; two great-great-grandchildren: Kacey Hashbarger and Lennon Hashbarger, sister, Katrina Pitts and her brother, Randy (Christina) Napier, both of Wabash. She was also preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Anita Chalfant, three brothers, and four sisters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, April 6, 2026, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Charlie Easterday officiating. Entombment will be in Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum, at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
