Braun, the agencies announcing new cooperation agreements are the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Correction, and Indiana National Guard.

"Indiana is not a safe haven for illegal immigration. We will fully partner with federal immigration authorities as they enforce the most fundamental laws of our country," Gov. Braun said in a statement Friday.

In Friday's statement, the Governor said that the Indiana Department of Homeland Security had approved a 287(g) agreement with ICE.

The 287(g) program allows ICE to enhance collaboration with state and local law enforcement to protect the United States through the arrest and removal of illegal aliens.

The agreement is under a "Task Force" model, authorizing Indiana DHS officers to perform functions such as arrests, issuing detainers, taking and maintaining custody, and operating as a joint task force with ICE.

Gov. Braun says the Indiana State Police has entered into a similar agreement to assist and collaborate with federal immigration authorities in their work.

The Indiana Department of Correction has signed a Warrant Service Officer memorandum of agreement, authorizing designated DOC personnel to assist with immigration enforcement duties in jail and correctional facilities.

The Indiana DOC has also started an agreement with federal immigration enforcement to identify and deport removable aliens who have been arrested for a crime and booked into Indiana correctional facilities.

Gov. Braun says the Indiana DOC is also working with ICE to make up to 1,000 beds available at the Miami Correctional Facility in Miami County, Indiana.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block; text-align:center;"
     data-ad-layout="in-article"
     data-ad-format="fluid"
     data-ad-client="0531879237494766"
     data-ad-slot="2870348528"></ins>

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Governor Mike Braun has announced a series of partnership agreements with federal authorities to assist in immigration enforcement.
