A Huntington North High School graduate who has worked in multiple patient care<br>roles at Parkview Huntington Hospital (PHH), she is excited to continue to serve the community she loves.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cParkview Huntington has always been home to incredible mentors and colleagues who have helped guide<br>and support me along the way,\u201d said Smart. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to now serve the same community that raised me.<br>Being from Huntington allows me to truly understand and connect with my patients, and it gives me a unique<br>perspective on the resources and support available in our area.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s wonderful to see a provider like Olivia grow and develop and continue to use her expanding skills for the<br>benefit of area residents,\u201d said Deb Potempa, market president, Parkview Health South. \u201cHer wide-ranging<br>experience in nursing has equipped her well to provide expert primary care for local families. There\u2019s no<br>doubt that Olivia is dedicated to her hometown, to Parkview and to outstanding patient care.\u201d<br>Smart earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree (MSN, family nurse practitioner) through Ball State<br>University in Muncie, Indiana. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Purdue University<br>Fort Wayne.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, she provides care<br>for PPG \u2013 Family Medicine patients in collaboration with Dr. Stephanie Flaig-Miller.<br>Smart discovered her interest in healthcare during a basic EMT course and a high school internship with<br>Parkview. She got her start in nursing as a patient care technician, working in oncology, medical\/surgical,<br>emergency medicine and behavioral health environments. As a registered nurse, she cared for the tiniest and<br>often critically ill patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Parkview Regional Medical Center,<br>providing family-centered care and ensuring that parents felt supported and informed during their challenging NICU journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most recently, as an emergency department nurse at PHH, she worked with a team tending patients of all<br>ages with a wide range of medical conditions, from life-threatening injuries to stroke or heart attack<br>symptoms to less critical health issues.<br><br>Away from work, Smart and her husband, who is also \u201cdeeply rooted in Huntington County,\u201d stay busy with<br>their 7-month-old son and their devoted American Staffordshire Terrier. They enjoy family walks and hosting<br>get-togethers with family and friends. Smart is an avid reader and an enthusiastic Cincinnati Reds fan.<br>She is a past board member of McKenzie\u2019s Hope, a child and domestic abuse advocacy center providing<br>community access to resources at no cost.
