The first violation results in a zero-fine warning, followed by a $75 civil fine for second violations, and a $150 civil fine for third and subsequent violations.<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/tbody>\r\n<\/table>\r\n<table role=\"presentation\" width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>\r\n\"Safety is the driving force behind this program,\" said Secretary of Transportation and Infrastructure Matt Ubelhor. \"We want everyone to go home to their loved ones at the end of the day.\"\r\n\r\nSafe Zones was authorized by the Indiana General Assembly during the 2023 legislative session through\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/click.subscription.in.gov\/?qs=beb4c8fd2d4858c6a23e4a342f1641ef84e56badcc5e331f5f3d6bcd425136c4a657bd4155944e16787b3711b9b8c28d1f7a8e7aa27ec565\" href=\"https:\/\/click.subscription.in.gov\/?qs=beb4c8fd2d4858c6a23e4a342f1641ef84e56badcc5e331f5f3d6bcd425136c4a657bd4155944e16787b3711b9b8c28d1f7a8e7aa27ec565\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">House Enrolled Act 1015<\/a>. By statute, the program may be active at up to four sites at any given time. The program aims to protect the lives of motorists and road workers by slowing drivers down and reducing crashes in work zones.\r\n\r\nThe system documents vehicle speeds using truck-mounted speed timing devices as they pass through work zones. When a vehicle is traveling 11 mph or more than the posted speed limit, the system captures an image of the vehicle\u2019s rear license plate. After data is validated, violations are certified and issued to the owner of the vehicle by mail.\u00a0In accordance with state statute, collected fines go into the state\u2019s General Fund.\r\n\r\n<a><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Signs are posted to notify drivers entering and exiting active worksites that speeds are being monitored by an automated system. Workers must be present at the time of an event for a violation to be valid.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><a title=\"https:\/\/click.subscription.in.gov\/?qs=beb4c8fd2d4858c656c8dc84d02f3e3d4dbb9d3c67d4dbc1ff66c3300e7c6518defb33ccc73ba44c127f7f0d371e71006488e28488088d18\" href=\"https:\/\/click.subscription.in.gov\/?qs=beb4c8fd2d4858c656c8dc84d02f3e3d4dbb9d3c67d4dbc1ff66c3300e7c6518defb33ccc73ba44c127f7f0d371e71006488e28488088d18\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Violations\u00a0<\/a>may be paid online, by phone, or by mail.
