The annual Hospital of Distinction program, now in its fifth year, recognizes hospitals that successfully implement best practices in key areas including infant safe sleep, breastfeeding, perinatal substance use, social drivers of health, obstetric hemorrhage, and maternal hypertension.\r\n\r\nParkview Hospital Randallia, Parkview Huntington Hospital, Parkview Kosciusko Hospital and Parkview Noble Hospital received the Hospital of Distinction award for meeting criteria in four or five categories, while Parkview Regional Medical Center received the Center of Excellence award for meeting thresholds in one to three categories.\r\n\r\n\u201cWelcoming a new addition to our patient\u2019s family is one of the most rewarding services our\r\nphysicians and nurses get to provide our communities,\u201d said Tasha Eicher, senior vice\r\npresident, women\u2019s and children\u2019s, Parkview Health. \u201cWe\u2019re proud to see our Family Birthing\r\nCenters recognized once again for the high level of care we provide to our patients in Fort\r\nWayne and our community hospitals.\u201d\r\n\r\nParkview Kosciusko Hospital, which opened its birthing center in September 2024, was\r\nrecognized for the first time, while the other four hospitals have all previously appeared on IHA\u2019s\r\nlists multiple times. Parkview Bryan Hospital also operates a Family Birthing Center but is not\r\neligible for the IHA award because it is located in Ohio.\r\n\r\nParkview welcomed just over 5,300 newborns across its six Family Birthing Centers in 2024.\r\nINspire is funded by the Indiana Department of Health\u2019s Safety PIN grant and was developed to\r\nimplement the delivery of best practice care for Hoosier moms and babies and to recognize\r\nhospitals for excellence in addressing key drivers of infant and maternal health.\r\nmore\r\n\r\nFor the first time in the program\u2019s history, 100% of Indiana\u2019s birthing facilities earned one of two\r\nINspire recognitions, reinforcing the progress that has been made to improve upon these\r\nservices.\r\n\r\nIndiana had an infant mortality rate of 7.2 per 1,000 live births in 2022, the latest year of data\r\navailable via the Indiana Department of Health. Approximately 29% of mothers in Indiana\r\nreceived no first trimester prenatal care, while 10.9% of babies were born preterm (before 37\r\nweeks gestation) and 8.7% had low birth weights of less than 5.5 pounds.
