He was born on April 19, 1938, in Wabash, Indiana, to Mark and Anne (Noonan) Devine.

Joe lived a life defined by leadership, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. A proud graduate of Lagro High School, he served as class president. He owned and operated Devine Realty for several years, guiding clients with honesty and a straightforward manner that earned lasting respect. After retiring from real estate, Joe continued to stay active in the community through his work at South Side Supply in Wabash, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and the steady rhythm of everyday work. He was also a member of Wabash Elks Lodge #471, a place where he built friendships and shared stories.

Joe was most at home in nature. On his more than 100 acres of country paradise, he could spend hours watching deer, birds, and turkey move across the land. He raised and trained quail hunting dogs, forming bonds with them that reflected his belief that “You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals and what they do with their empty grocery cart in the parking lot.” His land, his dogs, and the quiet moments outdoors were a source of joy and grounding throughout his life. Above all, family was everything to Joe. He cherished his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, celebrating their milestones, encouraging their dreams, and loving them with a steady, unmistakable devotion. Joe’s legacy is one of integrity, gentleness, humor, and a life lived close to the land he loved. His presence will be deeply missed and warmly remembered.

He is survived by two daughters: Lynn (Doug) Pelley of Whitestown, Indiana, and Brenda Herrman of Royal Oak, Michigan; two grandchildren: Emma (Stefan) Trentacosta of Royal Oak, and Vinnie (Danielle) Herrman of Clawson, Michigan; and two great-grandsons: Matt Trentacosta and Carson Herrman. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lora Devine, two brothers, Luke Devine and Phil Devine, and three sisters, Mary Jane Forrester, Judy Cleaver, and Ellen McAllister.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, July 17, 2026, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Lagro. Friends may call 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Acres Land Trust.

The memorial guest book for Joe may be signed at www.grandstaff-hentgen.com.

To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Joseph “Joe” Devine, please visit our floral store.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;text-align:center"
        data-ad-format="autorelaxed"
        data-ad-client="0531879237494766"
        data-ad-slot="9212395598"></ins>

Joseph Mark “Joe” Devine, 88, of rural Lagro, Indiana, died at 1:20 am, Monday, July 13, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
