He was born on May 17, 1930, in Wabash, Indiana, to LeRoy and Cleo (Garber) Biehl.

Max graduated from Urbana High School in 1948 and married the love of his life, Anna Lee Karns, on August 13, 1950. They shared nearly 74 years together before her passing on April 24, 2024. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Max was a retired farmer, deeply rooted in the land he worked, and also spent several years serving his community at the Urbana Post Office. Faith was a steady foundation for him as a member of Salem/Bethel United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Urbana American Legion, later moving his membership to the Laketon American Legion.

Max also was a carpenter, and if his family needed something built, he was always there to help. His hands shaped wood, but his heart shaped memories. Above all else, family was the center of his world. He enjoyed farming and working and also spending time at the cabin in the woods.

He is survived by four children: Cheryle (Ralph) Ranck of Urbana, Diana Stephan and Jill Biehl both of North Manchester, Indiana, and Jay (Lisa) Biehl of Matthews, North Carolina; nine grandchildren: Michael (Susan) Stephan, Christina (Kyle) Barlow, Angela (Shannon) Wilson, Matthew (Krista) Ranck, Nicholas (Andrea) Ranck, Lydia (Shane) Ralston, Gretchen Biehl, Alex (Kirstie) Biehl, and Abby (Jordan) Parry; 14 great-grandchildren: Alison Ranck, Bailey (Mason) Prestmo, Tyler Ranck, Cole Ranck, Max Ranck, Jack Ranck, Luke Ranck, Guy Stephan, Levi Stephan, Tristan Barlow, Tayten Barlow, Scarlett Ralston, Ava Ralston, and Ezra Biehl; and his sister, Nancy Chamberlain of Urbana. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Anna Lee Biehl, son-in-law Wayne Stephan, siblings and their spouses, Arden and Linda Biehl, Eldon and Martha Biehl, and Lois and Don Roser, and brother-in-law Max Chamberlain.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, July 10, 2026, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Rev. Luke Hunt and Brian Chamberlain officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia. Friends may call 4-8 pm Thursday, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The memorial guest book for Max may be signed at www.grandstaff-hentgen.com.

To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Lowell Max Biehl, please visit our floral store.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;text-align:center"
        data-ad-format="autorelaxed"
        data-ad-client="0531879237494766"
        data-ad-slot="9212395598"></ins>

Lowell Max Biehl, 96, of rural Urbana, Indiana, died at 6:54 am, Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
