Culture was hurting, and momentum was hard to find. But what I walked into was a group of people who refused to settle for that reality. A team ready to rebuild, re\u2011engage, and redefine what that facility could be.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">English said a combination of community relations, new partnerships and additional staffing has helped to strengthen the operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOver the past three years and nine months, we\u2019ve strengthened operations of a maximum-security prison, with a minimum-security unit, infirmary unit and a newly opened 1,000\u2011bed ICE detention facility. We rebuilt community relations, expanded partnerships with law enforcement and Grissom Air Force Base, doubled volunteer engagement, grew programming, and improved staffing and retention in meaningful way. These were not small wins \u2014 they\u2019re the result of dedication, teamwork, and a shared belief that MCF could be better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Miami Correctional Facility has come under fire after multiple&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fox59.com\/news\/ice-issues-statement-after-latest-inmate-dies-in-custody-at-miami-correctional-facility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ICE detainees died<\/a>&nbsp;while being held there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indiana Congressman&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fox59.com\/news\/politics\/rep-andre-carson-calls-for-investigation-into-ice-detainee-deaths-and-the-end-of-ices-involvement-at-miami-correctional-facility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Andr\u00e9 Carson appeared alongside dozens of protestors<\/a>&nbsp;at Miami Correctional Facility earlier this week to draw attention to the deaths of the two ICE detainees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In August, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said IDOC would collaborate with ICE to make as many as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fox59.com\/indianapolitics\/braun-designated-state-law-agencies-given-immigration-enforcement-powers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1,000 beds available at the facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In December, the Miami Correctional Facility came under fire after&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fox59.com\/news\/indiana-state-police-investigating-2-inmate-deaths-at-miami-correctional-facility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two inmates died<\/a>, with just over a week passing between the deaths.
