She was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on Wednesday, July 24, 1957, to the late John Logan and Dessie Mae (Kidd) Thompson. On August 11, 1973, she married the love of her life, James E. Dalton, Sr.

Opal attended Wayne County High School and spent her life dedicated to her family as a loving homemaker. She was a devout member of Lydia Baptist Church.

A wonderfully simple lady, Opal found her greatest joy in taking care of her children, family, and home. She possessed a remarkable mind, famously remembering every important date and family birthday. Her final act of kindness was the ultimate gift: as a tissue, kidney, and liver donor, she selflessly gave the gift of life to many. In her free time, she enjoyed watching game shows, cherished her own cats, and loved greeting other people’s dogs. She was a phenomenal cook who took immense pride in keeping her house meticulously cleaned, bright, and refreshed.

Survivors include her son, James E. Dalton, Jr. of Van Buren; daughter, Michelle (Rick) Hall of Warren; sisters, Judy (Carl) Butcher of Science Hill, KY, Mary Thompson of Somerset, KY; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Logan and Dessie Mae Thompson; husband, James E. Dalton, Sr.; brother, Jerry Wayne Thompson; and sister, Gloria Farrington.

A graveside service celebrating Opal’s life will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 10:00 am with Rev. Dan Van Cise officiating at Gardens of Memory – Marion, 11201 S. Marion Road-35, Marion, IN 46952.

Memories may be shared online at www.nswcares.com.

To send flowers to the family of Vena Opal Dalton, please visit our floral store.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;text-align:center"
        data-ad-format="autorelaxed"
        data-ad-client="0531879237494766"
        data-ad-slot="9212395598"></ins>

Vena Opal Dalton, 68, of Van Buren, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne.
